The Foundation was conceived from proceeds earned during the one-year NYSC compulsory service.

“Is not about huge financial investment but the will power” these are the words of the Proprietor, of Maikaya Development Foundation (MDF) Mohammed Musa Maikaya who started what has today became a live-wire that has added value to society.

“I must say that at some point my mum did a lot by supporting me through my education and when I got employed I lost her, which touched me knowing what opportunities I had missed.

How I wished she was here to ripe the harvest of her labour, and in finding ways of ventilating that earning, I started supporting some widows and orphans in the society as I was earning more income, I gave more of my earning towards providing succour to the less opportune”. he said. Mohammed Musa Maikaya, who contested the Governorship primary election with the incumbent Governor of Nasarawa in 2018, added that he struggle to sponsor scholarships, encouraged festivals, and also provide relief to persons affected by natural disasters, as well as carter for vulnerable widows and children.

With an additional one thousand Naira from the company that he served, which makes one thousand nine hundred and sixty Naira in his pocket every month, “So I was the highest my days.

“It was at this point that I considered supporting some of my friends whom we all started together, who did not go beyond primary and secondary school level but wanted to further their education.

I started donating my #960.00 towards supporting them to further their education and as God will have it, I got enlisted and was employed and I equally dedicated part of my salary in that direction formally. I must say that at some point my mum did a lot by supporting me through my education and when I got employed I lost her, which touched me knowing what opportunities I had missed.

“So having all these I felt the best thing to do is for us is to get the Foundation registered as an NGO and since then we’ve tried to add more activities and also tried as much as possible to maintain consistency which has spanned for over 25 years now” Maikaya added.

He further explained that with no direct benefits, he has derived pleasure in running the foundation as a non-profit making venture. The Philanthropic Proprietor noted that “I feel very comfortable and happy when I see the next person to me is happy. So people can say if I can have a way of making the people in the world happy with the available resources at my disposal I will do that. But unfortunately, I don’t see any person or human that can do that. Therefore I decided that within the little environment and within my strength of control of resources would muscle up to make people happy.

“We have also tried in the many ways we can because it is not just about giving out cash. We counsel people that we think they needed direction in life and give hope to the hopeless.

We tried to educate people, we also facilitates some engagements and in the last few months which is the latest, we trained over 500 people on skills acquisitions. We have also thrown our arms open in support of entrepreneurs, individuals focusing on women who are providing minimal services, like those doing pap and moi- moi and the rest, which cost little, but very impactful” he posited.

Maikaya further disclosed that the Foundation has a lot of activities that have added value to the socio-economic lives of the people making MDF better position in discharging humanitarian services. Talking about Funding, he said the Foundation as a charity organization is run and managed without the input of foreign or external partners, and of course, volunteers, as the resources used in organizing programs and for supporting schemes are from his income.

” So my life my earnings have been about people because adding value to people is like oxygen to me. Once the next person to me that I come across is happy, Maikaya is happy, “that shows I relax and get comforted” he stated.
